75 years of ideas, products, and solutions for automation from Kassel
In 1929, Georg C.K. Withof started a business in Kassel for the "manufacture and sales of technical
articles". After the war, work was re-started on 1.5.1948; at first with much improvization in the conser- vatory of
the Withof family's house, followed by a period in which the dance hall of a previous restaurant was used for
production and assembly - entrepreneurs must be inventive.
1960 saw the move to the present site in the Miramstraße, and the company grew rapidly in the following years: Turnover
was doubled in the period 1963 to 1966, with an export share of 30%. In 1965 the caption "Modules for Automation" was
added to the company name.
Automation modules and milestones in control technology
Also in 1965, Withof became market leader for controllers in the plastics processing industry. The galvanometric
Getrosist was follo- wed by the first "transistorized" controller, the extremely successful Plastomatic. During 1970,
sales topped 100.000 units. Soon after, the general-purpose Witromat was introduced. Temperature con- trollers are
still being produced under this name, with more than 200.000 units sold.
Philips had already bought Withof shares in 1962, and in 1975 Philips Industrial Electronics took over the company
completely. Even so, more than 25 years later, we occasionally receive mail addressed to Georg C.K. Withof GmbH - that
is answered, of course.
Since 25th February, 2005, PMA Prozeß- und Maschinen-Automation GmbH is an associate of the international technology
organization Danaher Corporation, USA. Danaher is a leading manufacturer in the areas of Professional Instrumentation,
Industrial Technologies, as well as Tools and Components.
PMA will become part of "Danaher Industrial Controls", where we will be positioned as a premium brand for measurement
& control technology. We therefore now belong to group of well-known, inter-nationally active companies such as
West Instruments, Gems Sensors, and Partlow. This gives us the opportunity to expand our previous product range with
"low cost controllers" and pressure trans-mitters. Moreover, the integration into a corporation with worldwide
operations is a chance for PMA to grow internationally - especially in North America and Asia.
These advantages, combined with the previous flexibility and closeness to customers of a medium-sized company, will be
part of our offer to you in future.
